Many people who use social media for marketing and sales still see it as a routine. Some still consider it an option they can do without. Yet, we have tons of people who really crave success with social media marketing but cannot seem to achieve it. This explains why only a small percentage of entrepreneurs succeed with social media marketing. To achieve success in your use of social media to promote your business, you must understand the principles involved. In this article, I will be sharing the 5 basic principles of social media marketing you must follow for success.
1. Have a plan.
You can’t stumble on success. If you are online to sell without a clear idea of the goals you want to achieve, you will never be successful enough. The vendors you see who are hitting it big on social media do not just wake up every morning to think of what to post. Everything you see them do every day is often planned ahead.
If you want to succeed online, don’t spend all your time talking and posting. You must spare good time to also listen – by reading other people’s posts, reading comments, following keywords and hashtags, joining groups that are related to products/services you sell, joining groups where you can easily find your target audience. When you do this, it’s easy for you to know the problems people are having and how you can be in position to help them solve it with your product. More so, you will be able to get ideas for creating quality content.
3. Create Valuable Content
Don’t just post content for the sake of posting – always look for how to share valuable content to attract people to your brand. You should either be giving information, sharing a life-saving or money-saving tip, sharing an interesting or funny story, passing insightful commentary on an important trending issue, teasing your followers with a question, appreciating your customers, workers, or other stakeholders, helping people discover new places and ideas, or sharing interesting content from other creators (with proper credits). There are tons of valuable and interesting content you can share. Don’t be boring.
4. Be Consistent
Creating content is tough, but what is tougher is doing it every day without running out of ideas. This is where a lot of people fall short and why they would rather get someone else to handle that part for them. But guess what? You can achieve consistency if you plan ahead, if you know your audience, if you listen more, and you equip yourself with a clear content pillar and content calendar. I will be sharing more details on how you can do this in subsequent posts.
5. Have a great Customer Service Culture
All of your efforts online will come to a waste if you do not have a proper customer service culture. With this final principle, you can turn an average business into a great one just by using amazing customer engagement to turn your followers into customers; using quality customer service to your customers into fans; and using world-class customer relations to turn your fans into life-time customers and involuntary marketers.
